What love is stronger than that of a poet? In his landmark song cycle, Robert Schumann captures the pain of poet Heinrich Heine from blossoming love in spring to desperation and death. Robert’s own great love, Clara, was as much a muse to him as every other composer in Europe at the time. Clara influenced a generation of performers and composers with both her virtuosity at the keyboard and works among the greatest of the German Romantic tradition.
